Re: Total cost estimate.....
You hit that nail on the head, Counts. I pray they don't simply rush into things and really start asking the right questions before commissioning another study -- and you know there probably will be one. If government does anything well, its to study and engineer something to death before they ever get around to actually doing a project. Case in point -- Coalfield Expressway. I'll be long dead and gone before they thing becomes a reality, if ever.
Re: Total cost estimate.....
I'd think the county might be sued for using more taxpayer money for a totally new school that has been undermined. Too much risk, these schools must last 50 years and you can't do that if any mining has taken place under them.
Re: Total cost estimate.....
If they build a new school, with the technology and resources of today, they can last for 75 years. WIth adequate up keep, who knows how long. The oly thing the schools now have different than caves are less writings of the walls.
Re: Total cost estimate.....
Good point, but I suppose they could use those 'deep compaction' techniques like was used with the construction of Red Onion prison. Granted that would escalate the costs considerable, but I think it could still be possible -- though possibly cost prohibitive.
Re: Total cost estimate.....
Was JWA built on a strip mine?
Re: Total cost estimate.....
Just about all the new schools in eastern Kentucky have been built on stripped land haven't they?
Re: Total cost estimate.....
So if the schools that are there, were mined under already, don't we have to shut them down? Or is putting money into them for renovation, risking being sued?
Re: Total cost estimate.....
I think so long as it is striped you are OK as someone said a lot of new KY schools are done that way. and if rumor is to be belived it is the Plan for Grundy's new school.
That being said you can sue for about anything and if someone want to sue to stop it I am sure that they can. Heck IMHO someone needs to Sue NOW on behalf of the Americans with Disabilities to get something rolling in Wise Co. (Other than a new study that is )
